Focus and Scope

Jurnal Arbitrer is a scholarly journal with the primary goal of promoting multilingualism through the dissemination of research on various aspects of language policy, linguistic rights, and the development of plurilingual competence. The journal is dedicated to advancing knowledge and understanding in the field of linguistics with a focus on embracing linguistic diversity and fostering a pluralistic approach to languages. Jurnal Arbitrer aims to contribute to the empowerment of minority and less widely taught languages, facilitate intercultural dialogue, and support language-sensitive teaching practices across disciplines.

  1. Language Policy: Jurnal Arbitrer encourages research that investigates language policies at regional, national, and international levels. Articles in this category may explore the impact of language policies on linguistic diversity, language endangerment, and language revitalization efforts.

Peer Review Process

The research article submitted to this online journal will be peer-reviewed. The accepted research articles will be available online (free download) following the journal peer-reviewing process. Language used in this Journal is English.

Reviewing a manuscript written by a fellow scientist is a privilege. However, it is a time-consuming responsibility. Hence, Arbitrer Editorial Board, authors, and audiences appreciate your willingness to accept this responsibility and your dedication. Arbitrer adheres to a blind peer-review process that is rapid and fair, and also ensures a high quality of articles published. In so doing, Arbitrer needs reviewers who can provide insightful and helpful comments on submitted manuscripts with a turn around time of about 4 weeks. Maintaining Arbitrer as a scientific journal of high quality depends on reviewers with a high level of expertise and an ability to be objectivefair, and  insightful  in their evaluation of manuscripts.

Publication Frequency

Since 2023, Jurnal Arbitrer is published four time a year, March, July, October, and December . 

Open Access Policy

Jurnal Arbitrer provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Non-commercial use and distribution in any medium is permitted, provided the author and the journal are properly credited.

Jurnal Arbitrer  also operates under the Creative Commons Licence CC-BY-NC. This allows for the reproduction of articles, free of charge, for non-commercial use only and with the appropriate citation information. All authors publishing with the  Arbitrer  accept these as the terms of publication.

Publication Fee

Papers which are submitted to Jurnal Arbitrer will be charged Article Processing Charge (APC) if it is ACCEPTED for publication.

Authors pay a one-time Article Processing Charge (APC) to cover the costs of peer review administration and management, professional production of articles in PDF and other formats, and dissemination of published papers in various venues, in addition to other publishing functions. Please note that the option to process an advance payment remains but does not guarantee acceptance of manuscripts. There are no charges for rejected articles, no submission charges, and no surcharges based on the length of an article, figures or supplementary data. Please contact us for special offer and waiver.

The corresponding author for all articles will receive one complimentary hardcopy of the journal in which his/her articles is published by adding cost for shipping. Additional copies of the journals may be purchased by writing to the Chief Executive Editor.

Publication Schedule

Arbitrer is published four time a year during a minimum number 8 articles for a volume and a maximum number 20 articles. The submission will be open whole year.

Arbitrer accepts submission for the following types.

1. Research article

Regular articles are full-length original empirical investigations and research, consisting of introduction, materials and methods, results and discussion, conclusions.  Original work must provide references and an explanation on research findings that contain new and significant findings.

Note: The article should in 6 and 12 journal pages (excluding the abstract, references, tables and/or figures), a minimum of 20 references, and an abstract of 150-250 words.

2. Review article

Review article is critical evaluation of materials about current research that has already been published by organizing, integrating, and evaluating previously published materials. It summarizes the status of knowledge and outline future directions of research within the journal scope. It aims to provide systemic overviews, evaluations and interpretations of research in a given field. The manuscript title must start with "Review Article:".

Note: The articles is about 7-10 pages, include appropriate figures and/or tables, and an abstract of 100-200 words.

Language Accuracy and Plagiarism Check

Arbitrer emphasizes on language accuracy. It must be writeen in English with clear and concise grammatical English. The authors are suggest to have the manuscript checked by a colleague or reputable institution. Author must provide submission with Certificate of Check from reputable institution.

Arbitrer also concern about the originality of the article. Plagiarism is intolerable. The article will be banished and the author will be rejected for future submission.

Journal History

Jurnal Arbitrer was initiated after the 1st Seminar on Linguistics (ISOL-1) in September 2013. It aims to provide a medium of publication for researchers in Indonesia, especially in the field of linguistics. The first issue was published on October 2013. Since the first publication, it has changed several times in term of journal management and policy

  • October 2013, the first issue was published in print form. The ISSN Print was issued on October 3, 2013.
  • in April 2014, the management was unable to publish the journal due to an internal issue.
  • In April 2015, the management agreed to put serious concern on Arbitrer by providing new staff and get funding from Faculty of Humanities. Since then, Arbitrer regularly published the issue on time.
  • Although Arbitrer  has been online since the first publication, yet the editorial process was done offline, including submission and review. In the end of 2016, the management agreed to do online editorial process.
  • on January 22, 2017, the ISSN Online was issued by LIPI
  • Since January 2017, the management agreed on new regulation and policy, including: All articles must be in English and using the new template based on national and international standard.
  • January 2017, the journal were registered and indexed to several website, including Google Scholar, IPI, Sinta, PKP Index, Publons, Linguist List, etc.
  • To maintain sustainability, Arbitrer has initiated partnership with conference and seminar. 
  • August 2017, Arbitrer was accepted to be indexed by DOAJ
  • October 2022, new editor in chief Prof. Dr. Oktavianus, M.Hum, appointed to lead the Editorial Board.
  • July 2023, Arbitrer applied new theme with OJS 3.
